Steady Maize Arrivals from Bihar; Increased Activity at Rail Rack Points
Maize arrivals from key producing districts of Bihar such as Khagaria, Begusarai, Gulabbagh, Darbhanga, and Purnia remain strong, with the new crop hitting the markets in full swing. Despite minor recent weather fluctuations, daily arrivals are steady at around 100,000 tonnes, reflecting sustained activity by both farmers and traders. Moisture Levels and Rack Point Operations The newly harvested maize contains moisture levels ranging between 16% and 18%. Despite this, loading and unloading operations are ongoing at a steady paceparticularly at key railway rack points like Araria, Dalkola, Semapur, and Forbesganj, where the movement of rakes continues actively. This indicates robust domestic demand, with feed manufacturers and stockists continuing their purchases. Price Scenario Premium quality maize is commanding prices as high as ₹2,235 per quintal, highlighting strong demand for high-grade grain. Maize with 1618% moisture is trading in the range of ₹2,100 to ₹2,125 per quintal. However, the presence of moisture is causing occasional slowdowns in procurement. In the Haryana and Punjab markets, maize prices have been recorded between ₹2,400 and ₹2,460 per quintal, depending on the quality, signaling firm demand for superior quality maize in those regions.
