Weather Update: Heavy Rainfall Forecast Across Over 10 States in North & Central India on Sept 16; IMD Issues Alert
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), monsoonal activity across the country has intensified once again as of September 16, 2026. A low-pressure system active over Rajasthan, combined with a cyclonic circulation forming over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to bring a widespread spell of rainfall across northern, central, and eastern regions of India over the next 48 to 72 hours.
The weather department has issued yellow and orange alerts for several districts in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds reaching 30 to 50 km/h and lightning strikes, is anticipated in these regions. Light to moderate showers are also expected across the hill states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
Agricultural experts advise farmers to align their field activities, including the harvesting or threshing of mature Kharif crops (such as maize, paddy, pearl millet, soybean, and groundnut), strictly with local weather conditions. Harvested produce should be stored in covered, safe locations, and immediate water drainage arrangements should be made in waterlogged fields to prevent root damage.
Farmers are further advised to avoid spraying any pesticides, insecticides, or fertilizers during active rainfall. Additionally, field workers and farm laborers should avoid taking shelter under isolated trees, metal poles, or open elevated structures during thunderstorms to ensure safety and adhere strictly to regional weather advisories.
