Central Govt. Announces Rs 6,000 MSP for Soybean

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement of a minimum support price (MSP) of ₹6,000 per quintal for soybean has brought relief to farmers in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha and Marathwada regions. This decision is significant for these key soybean-producing areas, where farmers have been struggling with volatile market prices and adverse conditions. A major cash crop, soybean provides crucial liquidity to farmers, especially ahead of Diwali, aiding their financial stability during the festive season. Vidarbha and Marathwada, particularly districts like Washim, Buldhana, Akola, and Amravati, are pivotal to soybean production, with West Vidarbha alone producing soybean worth over ₹7,100 crore annually. The Maharashtra government earlier announced ₹5,000 financial aid for distressed farmers and launched the Bhavantar Yojana, which ensures price difference compensation between MSP and lower market rates. The ₹6,000 MSP is expected to strengthen these efforts and provide greater financial security to farmers. The announcement has been met with optimism among farmers, as it promises a more stable income amid fluctuating market conditions.
