India Braces for Widespread Showers as Monsoon Trough Strengthens
The monsoon trough at mean sea level currently extends from Amritsar to Dehradun, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Patna, and Purnea, and then stretches southeastward towards the northeast Bay of Bengal. A cyclonic circulation is present over the southwest Bay of Bengal, off the north Tamil Nadu coast.Another cyclonic circulation is located over the northeast Arabian Sea. In Northwest India, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh until tomorrow. Himachal Pradesh will continue to receive similar rain for the next three days, while in Uttarakhand, the wet weather is likely to last for the next four to five days. Over the next week, light to moderate rain is likely at many places across the Western Himalayan region, often accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Some areas in the plains may also experience these weather conditions. In East and Central India, light to moderate rainfall with occasional heavy spells is expected in West Bengal and Bihar for the next four days. Odisha and Jharkhand are likely to start receiving rain from tomorrow, which will continue for the following two days. Chhattisgarh is expected to get rainfall starting three days from now. In Northeast India, light rainfall is expected to continue over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya for the next 4 to 5 days. This may be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and isolated heavy showers during this period. In South Peninsular India, light to moderate rainfall with heavy spells is expected over Kerala and the Ghat areas of Tamil Nadu, ending by tomorrow. Coastal and South Interior Karnataka are likely to receive rain for the next two days. Strong surface winds, with speeds reaching 40–50 kmph, are also expected across the region over the next three days. Additionally, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana during the next five days.
