Cyclonic Storm ‘Montha’ to Weaken Gradually; Heavy Rain Forecast for Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana

A cyclonic storm named “Montha” is currently situated over coastal Andhra Pradesh. It has been moving slowly towards the north-northwest at a speed of 15 km/h over the past six hours. The storm is located approximately 80 km northwest of Narsapur, 100 km west of Kakinada, 90 km north of Machilipatnam, 230 km west-southwest of Visakhapatnam, and 460 km southwest of Gopalpur in Odisha. It is expected to continue moving in the same direction across coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, gradually weakening into a deep depression within the next three hours and further into a depression over the following six hours. Meanwhile, another depression over the east-central Arabian Sea has been moving north-northeast at around 20 km/h. This system is likely to continue in the same direction across the east-central Arabian Sea over the next two days. In South Peninsular India, Kerala is expected to receive light rainfall over the next couple of days. However, Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh are likely to see very heavy rain. Thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds, reaching speeds of 30 to 50 km/h, are forecasted for Kerala, Coastal and North Interior Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Telangana, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, sea conditions are expected to be rough to very rough along the coasts of north Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha. In East and Central India, regions including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar are likely to experience light to moderate rain, with some areas receiving heavy rainfall over the next three days. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) are expected for the next four days, and Chhattisgarh may see thundersqualls with wind speeds up to 50–60 km/h until tomorrow. In West India, light to moderate rain is expected in Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) are likely to affect these areas over the next four days. For Northwest India, East Uttar Pradesh may receive light to moderate rain after two days, while East Rajasthan is expected to get rain tomorrow. West Uttar Pradesh could experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) until tomorrow. No major changes in temperature are expected across the region for the next five to seven days.
