Masoor Market Firm as Supply Tightens and Global Output Declines
During the current week, the lentil market continued to show strength. Prices witnessed an upward trend due to limited availability and increased buying activity. It is reported that domestic stock levels remain low, while consumer demand continues to rise. As a result, prices are expected to remain firm in the near future. According to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), Australia’s lentil exports for the 2024–25 marketing season declined to 1,028,484 tonnes, compared to 1,380,225 tonnes in the 2023–24 season. Experts attribute this drop to severe natural calamities that adversely affected crops, leading to lower production and reduced exportable stock. Despite this, India’s demand has remained strong. With new lentil arrivals now beginning in Australia, some improvement in export volumes is anticipated in the coming months.
