Rainfall Continues Across the Country, Temperatures Rising in Northwest and Central India

Weather activity remains quite active across the country. In northwest Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, a western disturbance is present as a cyclonic circulation, extending from 5.8 to 7.6 kilometers above sea level. A cyclonic circulation is also active over central Pakistan and adjoining south Punjab, up to 1.5 kilometers above sea level. Additionally, another cyclonic circulation is active near the southeastern Arabian Sea and the Lakshadweep region. In central India, a trough or wind discontinuity extends from central Maharashtra to the Lakshadweep region, reaching up to 1.5 kilometers above sea level. At lower levels, a trough stretches from south-central Madhya Pradesh to Jharkhand via Chhattisgarh. Cyclonic circulations are also active at different altitudes over central Assam, interior Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and eastern Bihar. Looking ahead, a new western disturbance may affect the western Himalayan region from May 10. Over the past 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall was recorded over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Kerala, and interior Tamil Nadu, with heavy rainfall at a few places. Additionally, light to moderate showers accompanied by thunder and lightning occurred over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, interior Karnataka, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, northern Haryana, northern Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, and parts of north-central Maharashtra. Light rainfall was also reported in Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Nagaland.
