The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that the monsoon trough remains south of its normal position, keeping monsoon activity active over large parts of the country. A Deep Depression has formed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal, adjoining the North Odisha and West Bengal coasts, and is expected to cross the coast between Balasore and Canning during the afternoon of 27 July. The system is likely to trigger widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across eastern, central and northern India over the next few days. In addition to the Deep Depression, upper air cyclonic circulations are active over Southwest Rajasthan, Northern Madhya Uttar Pradesh, and the East-Central Arabian Sea near the Konkan coast. A trough extending from Southwest Rajasthan to the Deep Depression is further enhancing moisture inflow, creating favourable conditions for widespread rainfall across several regions. Northern India is expected to witness an active spell of monsoon rainfall. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand are likely to receive widespread rainfall between 27 July and 2 August. Meanwhile, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi are expected to experience widespread rainfall from 28 to 31 July, while East and West Uttar Pradesh are also likely to witness significant rainfall activity during the forecast period. Rainfall is expected to intensify over East Rajasthan towards the end of the week, while West Rajasthan may continue to receive scattered showers. Across Central India, rainfall activity is set to remain vigorous. Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha are likely to receive widespread rainfall through the week. Several districts in these regions may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly between 28 July and 31 July, increasing the risk of waterlogging and localized flooding. In Southern India, monsoon showers are expected to remain active over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep throughout the forecast period. North Interior Karnataka, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are also likely to receive scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over the coming days. The IMD has also issued a thunderstorm and lightning warning for several states. Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha may witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, while parts of Madhya Pradesh could experience gusty winds of 30�40 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 50 km/h.
