The government has procured 305,420 tn coarse cereals so far in 2019-20 (Oct-Sep), compared with 181,450 tn in the year ago period, the Centre has procured only bajra in Haryana thus far. Bajra procurement has been higher on year as prices in the spot markets have fallen below the minimum support price, due to weak demand. Despite likely lower output in 2019-20 (Jul-Jun), demand for bajra is lower as heavy rainfall during Oct-Sep damaged the crop quality in Rajasthan and Haryana. For 2019-20 bajra output is pegged at 8.3 mln tn compared with 8.6 mln tn.
