Millers still giving priority to old Tur.
Due to weak demand in pulses, there is an atmosphere of sluggishness in the prices of pulses. Almost all the pulses were seen weakening. There was a lack of enthusiasm among the buyers. Some Madhya Pradesh pulses mills are buying tur dal from Maharashtra and selling it in their own brand, instead of buying tur and crushing it. Currently, only this remains business of profit for them. Madhya Pradesh tur has a demand by pulses mills whereas Maharashtra-Karnataka tur has no demand by MP pulses mills. The mills are refraining from ordering tur from outside states due to mandi fees.
In Maharashtra, Karnataka, there was an improve-ment in Tur prices due to government procurement, but trend changed withinn few days. Til now, old Tur is coming in large quantities. Due to the availability of old goods at cheaper prices comparatively, pulses mill owners are still giving priority to the purchase of old goods. Stockists have also started getting active gradually due to the downtrend in the prices of new Tur. Now some quantity of new goods are coming dry. Tur stocking is not considered profitable even at current prices. Bumper production of tur is expected in Myanmar. Whenever the import quota is released, cheaper tur will be imported. This import is again likely to pressurize domestic tur prices. Demand in processed tur remains weak.
