Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to witness isolated rains and thunderstorms; temperature to drop in Punjab and Rajasthan

Moist air is expected to remain in the northern plains and lead to dense fog in some pockets in the morning hours. The fog is expected to be notable, especially until Saturday. As for the northeast, a cyclonic circulation in Northeastern India will trigger light snow mixed in with rain over Arunachal Pradesh. Widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the adjoining regions is expected. It is likely to persist during the remainder of this week and into next week, with a few heavy spells and thunderstorms expected, too. A rain total of 50-100 mm is likely across Tamil Nadu and Kerala for the next five days. In Tamil Nadu, farmers are advised to provide adequate drainage facilities to all crops due to low to moderate rainfall forecast. To control damage in Tea crop due to frost, available plant leaves like a silver oak tree can be used to mulch the crop. Rainfall and thunderstorms across the Konkan coast, also involving inland Maharashtra, from Thursday to Friday, leaving some remnants on Saturday is forecast. Maximum temperatures will tend to be cooler than normal across Punjab plains to Rajasthan during this forecast period. A warmer trend in the overnight minimums across Delhi and nearby villages is expected to gradually drop to normal as we head into next week.

In Punjab, sugarcane crop is ready to harvest at maturity stage; carry out mulching to maintain the soil temperature and to conserve the soil moisture. Undertake thinning and weeding in late sown mustard crop; monitor the crop for aphid and white rust attack. Due to high relative humidity, infection of blight may occur in tomato; if symptoms appear, spray Dithane-M-45. In Rajasthan, there is possibility of frost. Therefore, farmers are advised to irrigate the crop at evening hours or spray 0.1 % Sulphuric acid to protect the gram crop from the cold wave/ frost. For control of termites in standing crops, give neem oil at the rate of one liter per bigha with irrigation water. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, and Lakshadweep. Isolated heavy falls are possible in northern Karnataka and Goa, whereas isolated rain and thunderstorms are possible over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

In MP, sowing of onion may be done with Thiram + Carbendazim of seed treatment before sowing but only when sky is clear. Continue harvesting of sugarcane crop once weather is normal and stop irrigation in Mango orchards. In Madhya Pradesh, farmers are advised to cover the poultry shed with gunny bags in order to protect the birds from cold weather and to give the mix vitamin supplements with the feed. In Chhattisgarh, provide lukewarm water to cattle. If windows are not installed in the cattle and poultry house, hang gunny bags to prevent cold air.
