Thunderstorm with moderate to heavy rain over Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan is expected due to cyclone ‘Tauktae’
Very severe cyclone Tauktae was near Latitude 15.0 North and longitude 72.2 east at 5:30 hours today. About 130 km West Southwest of Panjim (Goa), 450 km south of Mumbai, 700 km Southeast of Veraval, and 840 km southeast of Karachi. It is expected to move in North North-West direction and may cross the Gujarat coast anywhere between Porbandar and Bhavnagar near Amreli around the early morning of May 18.
A western disturbance is over North Pakistan and the adjoining areas. A cyclonic circulation is over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining parts of Pakistan. Another cyclonic circulation is over the central parts of Madhya Pradesh. A cyclonic circulation is seen over North West Rajasthan and adjoining Pakistan. And a trough from this cyclonic circulation is extending up to Marathwada across west Madhya Pradesh. A cyclonic circulation is over the Central part of Assam.
During the next 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rain with isolated extremely heavy spells may occur over North coast of Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra coast, and parts of Madhya Maharashtra. Light to moderate rain with isolated heavy spells may occur over Kerala, interior Karnataka and South coast of Karnataka.
Light to moderate rain with isolated intense spells may occur over interior Tamil Nadu, parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, south cost of Gujarat, Assam, and Meghalaya. Light rain with few moderate spells are expected over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, parts of Marathwada, the rest of Northeast India, Sikkim, parts of Gujarat, southeast Rajasthan and western parts of Madhya Pradesh. Light rain is possible at few pieces over East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and western Himalayas.
