Cyclone Yaas became a very serious cyclone, 3rd successive cyclone in as many years to hit east coast India
The cyclone Yaas has formed over the East Central Bay of Bengal. At 5:30am today, it was near latitude 16.3 N and longitude 89.7 E. It is expected to intensify into a severe cyclone by today evening and into a very serious cyclone by the morning of May 25th. Cyclone Yaas is expected to move in the North North-West direction towards north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal coast. Expected to cross north Odisha or West Bengal coast between Pradip and Sagar island on afternoon of May 26 as a very severe cyclone.
A western disturbance is over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu & Kashmir.A cyclonic circulation is over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining Pakistan. A cyclonic circulation is our Northern parts of Madhya Pradesh in lower levels. A cyclonic circulation is seen over South Konkan and Goa and adjoining areas. Light to moderate rain with few heavy spells are possible over West Bengal, parts of Odisha, east Bihar, East Jharkhand, Kerala, and Lakshadweep.
Light to moderate rain with one or two intense spells may occur over Sikkim, North East India, Karnataka, and south Madhya Maharashtra. Light rain with one or two moderate spells may occur over the north coast of Andhra Pradesh, isolated pockets of Tamil Nadu, Konkan and Goa, north Madhya Maharashtra, the rest of parts of Bihar and Jharkhand, interior Odisha, and isolated pockets of Chhattisgarh. Isolated light rain may occur over Western Himalayas.
Sea conditions will remain rough to very rough near Odisha and West Bengal coast. Fishermen are advised to not to venture into the Andaman sea, Odisha, West Bengal, and Bangladesh coast between May 24 and 26.
