Cyclone Yaas has intensified to a very severe cyclonic storm, the landfall to commence soon

Very severe cyclone Yaas was over the East Central and adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal near latitude 18.0 N and longitude 88.6 E at 05:30 hours today on May 25th. It was about 320 km SSE of Paradip, 320 km SSE of Balasore and 420 km SSE of Digha. The western disturbance is over Jammu & Kashmir. A cyclonic circulation is over Bihar and adjoining area. A cyclonic circulation is over the central part of Pakistan. During the next 24 hours, very severe cyclone Yaas will continue to move in the north North-West direction towards north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal coast. It will continue to give heavy to very heavy rain and thundershowers over coastal Orissa and Gangetic West Bengal. Rain activities will gradually increase and will cover interior Odisha parts of north Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. The expected landfall of Cyclone Yaas will be between Paradip and Sagar Island near Balasore between 11:00 and 13:00 hours on May 26. Light to moderate rain with one or two intense spells may occur over North East India, the rest parts of West Bengal parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Bihar, Kerala, and coastal Karnataka.

Light to moderate rains is possible over east Uttar Pradesh, parts of Tamil Nadu interior Karnataka. Light rain may occur over south Konkan and Goa, parts of Madhya Maharashtra and isolated pockets of Western Himalayas. Conditions will be rough to very rough along with Odisha, West Bengal, and Bangladesh coast. Wind speed will be very strong all along the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal.
