Government bought wheat worth Rs 85,581 crore from 49.14 lakh farmers on MSP, record purchase of paddy too

In the current marketing year, a record 433.32 lakh tonnes of wheat has been procured at Minimum Support Price (MSP) for a total of Rs 85,581 crore so far. In the current Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2021-22, wheat procurement has ended in most of the states and 433.32 lakh tonnes of wheat has been procured so far (till July 22). This is the all-time high of procurement and has crossed the previous record of 389.92 lakh tonnes for 2020-21 (April-March). Bulk procurement of wheat is done during the period April-June. The Food Ministry said, About 49.14 lakh farmers have been paid Rs 85,581.35 crore. Paddy procurement also at all-time high- Procurement of paddy is going on in the procurement states in the current Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2020-21 (October to September). The Center has procured a record 869.76 lakh tonnes of paddy (includes 707.69 lakh tonnes of Kharif crop and 162.07 lakh tonnes of Rabi crop paddy) till July 22, 2021, as against 759.24 lakh tonnes in the same period last year. About 128.37 lakh farmers have been paid Rs 1,64,211.54 crore in the government procurement for the ongoing Kharif marketing season with MSP price. Paddy procurement has also crossed the previous high of 773.45 lakh tonnes in the 2019-20 Kharif marketing season.
