Isolated rains with a chance of lightning or hail are forecast over Mizoram, Tripura, East Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch, Konkan, Goa, North and South Interior Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe

A western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over east Iran and adjoining areas of Afghanistan in the middle and upper tropospheric levels, with an induced cyclonic circulation over central parts of Rajasthan and the neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels. In addition, due to the likely interaction between moist southeasterly surface winds from the Bay of Bengal over East-Central, East and Northeast India with the middle tropospheric westerly trough, scattered to fairly widespread light or moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) may lash Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand. Isolated hailstorms may occur over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu- Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad on March 16-17 and over Uttarakhand from March 16-19. Isolated hailstorms may impact Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh on March 17 and North Rajasthan from March 17-19. Further, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds may lash Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh from March 16-19. Isolated hailstorm activity is expected over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathawada on March 16 and 17. Meanwhile, a north-south trough runs from North Interior Tamil Nadu to Konkan in the lower tropospheric levels.

Under its influence, scattered to fairly widespread light or moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and winds gusting to 30-40 kmph may pelt North Interior Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka from March 16-19. Isolated heavy rainfall is forecast over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on March 18, while isolated hailstorms may impact Telangana on March 16 and 17. Additionally, a trough in the middle tropospheric westerlies and another trough running from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to South Odisha in lower tropospheric levels may produce fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) over East and Northeast India from March 16-19. Isolated hailstorms may impact Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal on March 17. As for the mercury levels, maximum temperatures are forecast to stay below normal over much of the country and well below average over East-Central India from March 16. Light to moderate rain with one or two intense thunderstorm activities may occur over west and south Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
