Wheat prices in Delhi remained at Rs. 2650~2600/q last week due to limited demand. Millers' demand for flour, rava, and maida remains good. Government tenders this week were at higher prices. Last week, tenders in Delhi from Maya Puri and Ghevra were at 2125/q and 2325/q respectively. The arrival of new wheat has started in Gir Somnath, Kodinar, Rajkot, and Junagadh lines of Gujarat. Currently, the moisture content in new wheat is 10-18%. New wheat is being traded at Rs. 400 - 600/20 kg. In the coming days, the pressure of arrival will increase. Arrival of new crops from Haryana, Punjab and other states will start from April onwards. Wheat acreage has increased this year. In Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan, wheat production is expected to increase by 7~10 % this year. Rabi sowing has been completed with the wheat area increasing to 341.57 lakh hectares. There are reports of weak sowing of wheat in some areas.This year, sowing has been low in Gujarat and some parts of Madhya Pradesh like Ashoknagar, Guna, Vidisha, and Harda lines due to deficit rainfall. Farmers have opted for alternative crops like chickpeas, lentils, mustard, and kabuli chickpeas instead of wheat. This time, only wholesalers and large chains have been put under control. Retailers have been exempted from this. Earlier, any retail store or wholesaler of a large chain was allowed to hold 1000 tonnes of wheat. It has now been reduced to 500 tonnes. In the coming days, new wheat will arrive in all the markets. Due to this, there is less expectation of a big rise in prices. Prices are expected to remain stable.
