Lentils: Arrival of new lentils starts in Madhya Pradesh

The arrival of new lentils has started in Indore, Damoh, Sagar, Basoda and Ashoknagar of Madhya Pradesh. Every day 1500~2000 bags of new lentils are arriving in the markets. In the next 7~10 days, arrival of new lentils will also start from Lalitpur, Orai and Kanpur of Uttar Pradesh. Sowing area increased this year in Madhya Pradesh compared to last year. Due to which production is likely to increase. This year, due to disease in the crop in some parts, the new lentil grains are small and the quality is also average. The moisture content of new lentils is 10~12 percent. Recently the government launched the MSP portal for lentils. Due to which farmers were asked to buy lentils at MSP price. After Bharat Atta and Rice, the Central Government is planning to launch Bharat Masoor (lentils) dal but at a price of around Rs 89 per kg, without any discount. Despite inflation being under control and lentils available in large quantities in the government stock, prices of pulses have increased. In the first phase, NAFED and NCCF will be processing and packing 25,000 tonnes of pulses and it will be distributed through central stores across the country. Sales are expected to start from the first week of March.
