Central government has approved the purchase of soybean at MSP in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh

The central Ministry of Agriculture has approved the Madhya Pradesh government's proposal to purchase soybean at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). The MSP for soybean has been set at ₹4,892 per quintal. On Wednesday, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted that recently there was concern among farmers in Madhya Pradesh that soybean was being sold below the MSP. Previously, states like Maharashtra and Karnataka were granted permission to buy soybean at MSP, and now the proposal from Madhya Pradesh has also been approved. Therefore, soybean will now be purchased at MSP in the state. Due to soybean prices in the state's markets ranging between ₹3,000-3,500 per quintal, farmers' dissatisfaction had increased. Farmers have been demanding an MSP of ₹6,000 per quintal for soybean and have been protesting. The Congress party has announced a farmer justice march and tractor rally in all districts of Madhya Pradesh on September 20. Prior to this, Congress organized a tractor rally in the Garoth Assembly constituency of Mandsaur district under the leadership of PCC Chief Jitu Patwari. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated that the proposal for purchasing soybean at ₹4,892 per quintal MSP was sent to the central government for approval, which has now been granted. Currently, MSP is provided for pulses, wheat, and chickpeas in the state.
